Dan warns you to start out slowly with starting seeds ahead of time. I say, throw all caution to the wind and go for it. (This is a friendly disagreement between garden buddies.) But he is correct that the seedlings do take up space and will require daily checking-up-on. I keep mine on my sunporch and out in my old, retired 1993 Mercury station wagon, now converted into a greenhouse. I did have to bring everything into the house one night when the low temperatures were forecasted to dip into the low 20s or even the teens. (My seedlings seem to survive if the temps stay above about 27 degrees F.) But it definitely is a huge rush to start everything from seed all by yourself. Oh, and I agree that it is more work to transplant seeds than to sow directly into the soil. So I don't recommend it for anything except the crops that absolutely require the extra time.

I have some seeds for peas that I was wondering if I could start indoors and that's how I found your blog. I am also excited you are in the same hardiness zone, which makes the information much easier to process :-)
I'll be starting my seeds in toilet paper and paper towel rolls
